Annual Susan Hickman Research Award

The Susan Hickman Memorial Research Award of $500 is given each year to an individual, preferably enrolled in a masters, doctoral, or post-doctoral program, or a junior research faculty member with affiliation with an accredited institution of higher learning. The research must be related to issues of postpartum mental health.

The primary purpose of this award is to promote and foster the interest of beginning researchers in the conduct of scientific investigation and knowledge development about postpartum mental health and postpartum psychiatric illness.

Sample previous winners include Linda Amankwaa, Yuko Leong, and Kim Boland-Prom. Linda received her award for researching Postpartum Depression Among African-American Women. Yuko was awarded her grant to study postpartum depression in Japanese-American women. Kim’s award is funding her investigation of whether or not working women’s reported sense of control and perceived social support in the work and family domains affect their depressive symptoms.

Submissions must be received by April 15 of each year. For details on the application process, contact the PSI main office in Santa Barbara, California: 805.967.7636.
