Postpartum Psychosis Is in the News
If It’s Feeling Heavy, Postpartum Support International Is Here for You
Too often, public conversations about perinatal mental health disorders occur only in the wake of tragedy. Our hope is that these moments become opportunities to educate, encourage compassionate conversations, and remind families that postpartum psychosis is a medical emergency that is treatable—and that recovery is possible with timely care.
It’s important to take care of yourself. This may look like limiting the time you spend watching news coverage, or not watching it at all. You do not need to consume every headline. It may be helpful to avoid the comments section. It’s okay to step away and care for your mental and emotional wellbeing.
About Postpartum Psychosis: Information and Resources
Postpartum psychosis is a serious perinatal mental health condition that requires immediate attention and treatment. With the right support and care, people can and do recover. No one experiencing postpartum psychosis should face it alone.
Postpartum Support International’s Postpartum Psychosis Task Force brings together people with lived experience, clinicians, researchers, advocates, and families to increase awareness, improve education, and ensure those affected receive timely support and compassionate care.

In an emergency, call your local emergency number, the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-852-6262 (1-833-TLC-MAMA), or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988.
PSI Membership Benefits for Professionals
PSI membership includes peer consultation groups for professionals. Providers of perinatal services meet monthly, via web conferencing, to share knowledge and skills. There are groups for counselors, psychologists, and other mental health providers in both English and Spanish. PSI also has peer consultation groups for BIPOC mental health providers, prescribers, and doulas.
Additionally, PSI’s professional membership includes postvention support. When a perinatal patient or client dies by suicide, the PSI Postvention Peer Support Program offers a confidential and non-clinical space for providers to process their intense grief and professional stress. Providers supporting families after infanticide are encouraged to reach out, as well. This is not clinical supervision, but essential peer support to help you stabilize, heal, and continue your vital work. We help you find the support you need, grounded in shared understanding and strict confidentiality. Learn More
