PSI Support Navigator

PSI Support Navigators are active volunteers who provide human connection, peer support, Perinatal Mental Health information, reassurance, and resources to those who reach out for help related to mental health in pregnancy and postpartum.

Support Navigators are encouraged to volunteer at a pace that is healthy and balanced in their own lives. PSI deeply appreciates each of its volunteers, all of their efforts, and their passion to make a difference in the lives of mothers and families worldwide.

Interested in volunteering?  We welcome you to fill out this interest form or email Melissa Bentley. Local Volunteers do not have to reside in their coverage area.

Support Navigators

Support Navigators provide peer support, information, and resource referrals to parents and families, assisting them in addressing perinatal mental health issues during pregnancy, postpartum, and post-loss. They respond to help requests by phone, text, or email within 24 hours to provide support and understanding, then follow up with appropriate resources. This role does not include providing medical advice, assessments, or evaluations.

Currently seeking volunteers in these locations:
  • Arkansas
  • Florida
  • Iowa
  • Kansas
  • Minnesota
  • New Mexico
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin
  • Canadian Provinces

We welcome volunteers from all over the US and Canada!  Please do not hesitate to apply if you are not in one of these areas!

Languages: Mandarin, French, Haitian Creole, Japanese, and more.

Lived Experience Specialists

Sometimes what helps the most is talking to someone who has “been there” themselves. PSI Lived Experience Specialists provide validation, compassionate understanding and empathetic support to individuals whose mental health challenges during pregnancy, postpartum, and post-loss are exacerbated by experiences or circumstances. . This unique role requires personal experience with the area of lived experience they support, or significant work experience in a related field. Examples include: Bed Rest, Dads, LGBTQIA+ Parents, Military, NICU, Pregnancy and Infant Loss, Teen/Young Adult Parents. A current list of offerings can be seen here.

The primary responsibility of the Lived Experience Specialist is to provide peer support, information, and resources to parents and families, assisting their recovery from perinatal mental health challenges during pregnancy, postpartum, and post-loss.

Lived Experience Specialists respond by call, text, or email to all help requests within 24 hours. This role does not include offering medical advice, assessments, or evaluations. Instead, Lived Experience Specialists offer understanding, reassurance, and hope, along with resources related to their personal experience.

Currently seeking volunteers for these areas of specialized support:
  • Christian Parents
  • Dads/Fathers
  • Dads/Fathers who have experienced loss
  • Indigenous Parents
  • Maternal Suicide Loss Survivors
  • Military Parents (Active Duty and spouses)
  • Neurodivergent Parents
  • Parents with Physical Disabilities
  • Support for Families after Pregnancy-related Death (for families grieving the loss of a birthing person during pregnancy, birth, or postpartum)

If you have experience or knowledge of another specialized area and would like to offer support, reach out to Melissa Bentley!
