Women face the greatest vulnerability to psychiatric illness during the childbearing years—a time marked by the highest rate of mental health-related hospitalizations in the female life cycle. The field of women’s reproductive mental health is highly specialized, with an increasing need for expertise in the area of criminal justice.
Understanding the role of the expert witness in cases where women have been criminally charged requires a nuanced grasp of the intersection between criminal law and mental illness related to childbearing. This dynamic 8-hour professional training invites attendees to explore the foundation for the clinical, legal, and sociocultural perspectives that play an integral role in becoming a skilled forensic expert. Working with actual forensic cases, this training includes the clinical development of a maternal filicide case from initial evaluation to preparing an expert report and giving expert testimony. Didactic learning is enhanced by hands-on experiential learning.
This advanced training strengthens the foundation of knowledge and applied skills needed to further your development as a confident and competent forensic expert in women’s reproductive mental health.
